When you think of Sydney, you think beach, surf, sun and fun? Well it seems the FUN word is nowadays a bit on standby. Sydney Lockout laws imposed upon the city’s nightlife have recently forced many clubs and bars to close down completely. In certain metropolitan suburbs, you can no longer go to another bar past 1am. Put down that Chivas Regal when you get in as you can’t even enjoy a whiskey on the rocks past midnight without soda or cola, as it would be considered a shot. For those playing at home, all liquor stores close at 10pm so you better stock-up or your soiree may dry-up. With such limitations people aren’t going out as much and you can sense it on the streets of Sydney which once were lively and fun. This is a shame for such a beautiful international city and it’s yet to be seen whether the Keep Sydney Open movement that has started can make a change.
PS: Common Sydney, it’s one of the reasons I moved out! Put the fun back into this beautiful city!
Did you know: 10 iconic bars have since closed due to the lockout laws (Flinders Hotel, Hugo’s Lounge, Soho Lounge, Bar Century, Lansdowne Hotel, The Backroom, The Goldfish Bar, Beachaus, The Passage, Jimmy Liks)
