A record has been reached at the Phillips Geneva Watch Auction where the hammer was hit for none less than $3,717,906 USD for a gold Daytona Rolex known as “The Legend”. This gold Oyster Paul Newman Daytona ref. 6263 is one of only three known to exist. It is now the most expensive Daytona and the second most expensive Rolex ever sold. The Rolex “Bao Dai” ref 6062 sits on top of the podium reaching $5,060,427 USD a day before. These rocketing figures are enough to make you lose track of time. It is said that a bidding war took place at the auction room with the winner keeping his anonymity.
Did you know: Paul Newman owned a few Daytona’s and was seen wearing them on the racetracks. It is said that thanks to him the Rolex Daytona became popular.
