The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is presenting works from Keith Haring called “The Unconventional Canvases of Keith Haring”. The show presents works he executed for more than 9 years on cars and a motorbike across the USA and Europe. It is the first time that all the cars have all been gathered in one show. The precursor of Street Art, Keith Haring is well known for his thick stroke paintings representing dancing figures, dogs and babies on canvas, as graffiti on subways as well as on other products such as toys or t-shirts. The vehicles here are taken out of their utilitarian context to be used as another medium where he expresses himself. The military green Land Rover and the 1963 Buick are one of my favorites. If you are in LA you can view the exhibit until June 2017.
TRD: I could easily picture a Mini painted by Keith Haring
Did you know: All of Keith Haring’s siblings name start with a “K”: Keith, Kay, Karen, and Kristen.
