CHRISTO FLOATING PIERS A LIFETIME PROJECT

Walking on water, the installation imagined by Christo and his wife Jean Claude in the 1970’s, became a reality for 16 days from mid June. A 3 kilometers walkway was created of floating modular of high density polyethylenes cubes covered by a saffron coloured fabric. Entry was free to the public who could enjoy his work and the surroundings with undulating water beneath them. The monumental scale of the installation is very impressive, particularly seen from a bird’s eye view with the crowd of people enjoying the brilliant installation appearing like ants crossing a painting. Update: For all of you who love art books Taschen have released Collector’s Edition (No. 161–1,000), signed by Christo and Wolfgang Volz, with a 24 x 24 cm swatch of The Floating Piers’ original dahlia yellow fabric. BUY
