I’ve recently made a trip to Bilbao and visited the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum which is currently showing a Bill Viola Retrospective until November 9th 2017. The last time I had seen his exhibition was back in New York many years ago which left quite an impression on me. Known as the pioneer of video art, this retrospective takes you through his beginnings in the 70s with works such as The Reflecting Pool (1977–79), the compilation album Four Songs (1976) spanning to his more recent works such as The Dreamers (2013) or the Inverted Birth (2014). Bill Viola’s work immerses you into the experience of life and the time passing. It is well worth seeing his works again if you haven’t done so lately. And you should also plan enough time to the view the museum’s permanent collection finishing off with a walk through Richard Serra’s large sculptures. More info
