Nazare is one of the biggest waves that only the bravest of men are prepared to tackle each winter. Footage of these incredible exploits have been released worldwide but never cease to amaze the viewers. Your eyes sometimes have to focus on the screen in order to see these surfers shoot down these mountains of water that can reach over 78ft (23.8 metres). Looking like an ant on a huge wall of water that is ready to break down washing everything on its way. There aren’t many people on the list among the best big wave surfers who can take on such challenge as the sport can be lethal. They form part of an exclusive extreme surfing club who can brave the biggest spots such as Mavericks, Puerto Escondido, Punta Lobos, Ghost Trees, Belharra, Shipstern Bluff and Todos Santos, Nazare.
Did you know: Nazare has a canyon that is some 16,000 feet below the ocean’s surface, according to the Portuguese Hydrographic Office. By contrast, the Grand Canyon in Arizona is about 6,000 feet deep at its lowest point. (source)
