Aston Martin is James Bond’s car maker of choice when it comes to hitting the road. Now this pick will not only be limited to land as the company expands to the depths of the sea. The ‘Neptune Project’ which was originally a submersible concept collaboration between Aston Martin and Triton Submarines LLC, will now see further development. As the companies announced the completion of the design phase with the commencement of the first production model later this year.
The Aston Martin submarine will do a great job at keeping a low profile for any secret agent or villain wanting to reach a underwater hideout. As Project Neptune’s technical specification announced that the submersible will be able to dive to impressive depths of 500 metres with speed in excess of 5 knots. The craft will carry two passengers and a pilot, offering the crew a 360-degree view of their surroundings in luxurious interiors with tanned hand-stitched leather and slick carbon finish.
Marek Reichman, Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer have said it was quite a challenge:
“Project Neptune’s interior was a great challenge,” Reichmann added. “Unlike a sports car where the interiors are installed into an open-sided cabin before the doors are fitted, everything you see inside will be lowered through the upper-hatch and assembled within the completed sphere of the pressure hull. We have been able to present a congruous aesthetic that defies its multipart complex installation.”
Price has yet to be announced but prospective buyers can get in touch with Aston Martin dealers and Triton Submarine representatives to secure the remaining build slots.
Did you know: The Aston Martin logo aren’t bird wings. S. C. H. Davis the designer used a scarab’s wings as the shape you see on extending to each sides. The man was a fan of Egyptology, as were many British people at the time, and scarab wings were symbols of journeys and protection in ancient Egypt. (source)
