I was recently invited to the grand opening of Da Maria Bali restaurant and bar, in Petitenget. The new Italian restaurant was opened by successful Australian restaurateur Maurice Terzini, the man behind the Icebergs Dining Room and Bar, Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta, and The Dolphin all based in Sydney. The place was packed with a nice international crowd, good music and a very festive ambience with lots of dancing. First impression was very house disco in a huge space designed by Roman based Lazarini Pickering Architects, reminiscent of the 60’s Amalfi Coast and the architect Gio Ponti’s style. The space is bright and airy with an interior courtyard, tiled fountains, light blue graphical patterns contrasting on white with a touch of yellow on the couch seatings. Second time around I was there with some friends for a nice dinner. Going through the menu you will find a mix of Neapolitan pizzas and traditional Italian Osteria food. Luckily the manager who knew one of us at the table, offered to make a tasting selection for us which was perfect as everything looked very appetizing. And what a pleasure it was to discover a variety of delicious dishes that were carefully chosen. Everything was delicious, simple Italian food that just tastes great. Just like you would like it if you were down the Amalfi Coast. For the late nighters they have Late Night Pizza with some house music and a bar going on as well.
TRD: I love their merchandise which says DISCO PIZZA
Did you know: Amalfi is one of the first places where paper as we know it today was made in Europe.
